Last year I did the GUADEC 08 WebKit tech keynote* in Istanbul, which was a hit in the GNOME community.

One of the aspects of WebKit that inspires the most is that it is perhaps the largest cross-desktop, cross-platform open software collaboration around. And we're the developers making that happen.

I was just about to put forward a GNOME-specific abstract for GUADEC 09 when I remembered the various times we've worked together, and that our story can be much stronger if we present a combined WebKit session this year in the spirit of the Desktop Summit.

The deadline for abstracts is in a few days. The way I see this being done is as a main track presentation, co-presented by representatives for GTK+ and Qt. We would get one slot (ideally before or after lunch, or end of day, so we can use the full hour) and present in a coordinated way.

I'd expect to do preparation work by phone, IRC and possibly in person to deliver a talk that closes the perceived gap between our projects and lets our audience know how GNOME, GTK+, Qt and KDE are becoming leaders in web/desktop/mobile integration.

The session would have an emphasis on the social aspects of our work and the end results (applications, devices, stunning demonstrations) to engage a diverse and partly non-technical audience. The goal here is to set the pace and the theme for Akademy / GUADEC 09 -- web technology, collaboration and innovation.
