Let's fix audio on the Free Desktop! Big advancements in this area have already been made in the last years, but there's a long way still to go. In this talk I'd like to speak where we come from, where we currently are and what's there still to do.

A couple of keywords I will touch: modern volume control/flat volumes, hotplug, audio policies, tagging streams, audio metadata, event sounds/audio themes, audio effects, power management, userspace sound systems, desktop integration -- and that's probably already more than we could cover in 30 mins.

This is both intended as an overview of what's currently happening and as a presentatiom about how to write well behaving modern audio applications and what to be aware of while doing so.
